What to give a baby: gift ideas for christening, birthday, and other shoes
Compartir
A baptism, a first birthday, a baby shower, or simply the birth of a niece or nephew. When a baby is involved, there is always something to celebrate… and the eternal dilemma of what to give. Clothes, toys, and diapers are the classics, but there is one gift that almost always steals hearts: little shoes.
In this guide, we tell you why they make a great gift, how to choose the right pair for the occasion, and, most importantly, how to get the size right when you can't try them on.
Why little shoes are an ideal gift
- They are adorable and appear in every photo. It’s the detail that moms always want to show off.
- They are a keepsake. Many parents keep their baby’s first shoes for their whole lives.
- They are practical. They are useful for going out, for parties, and for photos, and they are always needed.
- They go with everything. Unlike clothing, they don't depend as much on the season or the mother’s style.
What to give based on the occasion
Baptism
White is the quintessential color: it looks clean, elegant, and matches traditional attire. Look for a delicate pair with discreet details like little flowers or a strap with a buckle to keep the shoe secure during the ceremony. Our little shoes in light shades are an excellent choice.
Birthdays and parties
Here you can be more daring: red, gold, glittery pink, bows, flowers, or fun designs. The ideal choice is a pair that looks festive in photos and is comfortable for the whole afternoon.
Baby shower or newborn
For a baby who is about to arrive, choose a soft and light pair, keeping in mind that they will likely be used a little later on. It is best to choose a size that will fit when they are a bit older.
First steps
If the baby is about to walk or has just started, a light and flexible pair is the perfect gift. Our booties are ideal for colder days.
Photo shoots
A striking pair (with a bow, flowers, or glitter) can be the star of a session. Make sure the color matches the outfit and that the baby can wear them for a good while without being bothered.
The great challenge: what size to choose?
When it’s a gift, you can’t measure their foot. These ideas will help you get it right:
- Ask discreetly. If you know the mom, you can ask her what size her baby wears right now without telling her why.
- Calculate by age. As a reference, 3 to 9 months usually corresponds to 11 cm, 9 to 15 months to 12 cm, and 15 to 21 months to 13 cm. You can see the full chart in our Size Guide.
- Consider the age they will be when they receive it. If the party is in a month, think about how much their foot will have grown by then.
- When in doubt, go one size up. A slightly loose shoe can be worn shortly after, while a small one is useless. But don't overdo it: more than one extra size is too much.
Colors and styles: how to choose
- White, cream, or gold: formal occasions and baptisms.
- Red, pink, or patent leather black: parties, photos, and outings.
- Details with bows, flowers, or glitter: the adorable touch that shows up in every photo.
- Fun designs: for babies who are already exploring and playing.
An extra tip: bundle the gift
Little shoes pair very well with another small item: a bodysuit, a hair bow, or a card with a sweet note. It becomes a complete, thoughtful, and easy-to-give gift.
